Tarro Steampunk

I have to admit it, I love vintage things. Those objects that smell like the dust of years and years. Those objects that have lost their color or have been rusted with the time.

I also love the the aesthetics of the Steampunk movement, born of a literary movement of the 80's and that mixes Victorian aesthetics with elements of steam engines. The most used colors are brown and gold or old bronze. And it is that aesthetic that inspired today's alteration.

It's a jar of candies, more specifically of violets, a typical candy in Madrid. It's made of glass and the top was purple plastic. On one side, it has an slit used to add the candy information. I took advantage of it to stick in that area a lot of metal elements, gears, charms, keys and that kind of central figure. I also added jewelry beads.

Once everything was in his pace, I added a couple of layers of black gesso, to prepare the surface. After that I added several layers of  Prima mediums, The Rust Effect Paste:

The kit consists of three mediums, Brown Rust that is dark brown and with a lot of sand texture, Red Rust, reddish but with less texture, and, finally, Gold Rust that is a mustard yellow and without texture, although it is denser than a normal paint. What I did was apply a non-uniform brown paste and use the other two to highlight certain areas. I followed the same process with the top, although in this case it is decorated with only some square beads.

The truth is that I loved the result of the Rust Paste, it is very easy to use and the effect is incredible.
And you? Do you dare to try it?
